A man from Bexhill has been charged with conspiring to abduct a young boy almost three years ago.

Jason Paul Warnes, 27, unemployed, of Ninfield Road, appeared in custody at Crawley Magistrates Court on October 11, charged with conspiracy to abduct a boy under 16 without the consent of his natural father, between December 2013 and January 2014.

He was committed for trial, with an initial appearance at Lewes Crown Court on November 8, and is on conditional court bail.

He was arrested by authorities in southern Cyprus on October 1 on a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) and was flown back to the UK on October 10.

The boy, who is now aged six, has not yet been returned to UK jurisdiction and enquiries continue.

A EAW is also in existence for the arrest of a woman allegedly involved in the same offence.
