Hundreds of flowers were vandalised in an elderly woman’s back garden on Wednesday night (July 22).
Selena Hart, of Albert Road, woke up on Thursday to a floral massacre as all of her red geraniums had their heads chopped off.
The 85-year-old said she was very distressed and could not understand why anyone would want to hurt her.
“I looked out of the window on Thursday morning and there was nothing there,” she said.
“They were planted earlier this year and there were hundreds and hundreds of beautiful flowers.
“I can’t think who would have done such a thing. It’s a very mean thing to do.”
Ms Hart said her garden was out of sight and whoever did it would have had to have known the flowers were there.
Geranium heads are useless when cut off as they die too quickly to be used in bouquets, according to the author and artist.
Ms Hart is disabled and has had a heart attack and several strokes recently and her flowers were her pride and joy.
“They were looking absolutely beautiful and now they’ve just gone,” she said.
