Poison mixed with peanut butter found near Bexhill badgers

The deadly bait was found on a property on Ellerslie Lane close to a fence separating it from a field with several badger setts on Monday (December 5).

Police believe it was deliberately put there to attract and kill badgers.

Sussex Police wildlife crime officer Daryl Holter said: “This is very concerning.

“Any amount of poison left like this could not only harm wildlife, but potentially injure or kill domestic animals or humans, too.

“The carcasses of poisoned animals would also represent a threat to other animals which ate them.”

He added: “Whoever did this clearly has no regard for public safety or the welfare of animals.

“Anyone finding similar containers should not touch them but immediately contact police.”
