Woman fined in drink-driving crackdown

Sarah Goodall was arrested at 4am on Monday, June 6 after she was found asleep in her car in Ashburnham Road, Ninfield, with the keys in the ignition.

The 51-year-old refused to speak to officers and had to be dragged away from her car.

Goodall, of New Pond Hill, Cross In Hand, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen for analysis when she appeared at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on July 8.

She was given 10 points on her licence, fined £180 and ordered to pay £235 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

A total of 71 people have been convicted of offences as part of the drink and drug-driving campaign, Operation Dragonfly.

A 68-year-old man has been banned from the roads after he was found drink-driving for the second time.

William Seed was arrested at 3.45pm on June 19 after he parked over a junction in Edward Street, Brighton.

The 68-year-old had 77 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath - more than twice the 35 microgrammes legal limit.

He had previously served a three-year ban for drink-driving imposed in 2000.

Seed, of Whitehawk Road, Brighton, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on July 15.

He was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £280 and ordered to pay £235 costs and a £28 victim surcharge.

Andrzej Janas was arrested at 11.20pm on June 28 after officers saw his Vauxhall Zafira stop suddenly in Felpham Road, Bognor Regis.

In the passenger footwell was a half-full bottle of Heineken and the 35-year-old had 75 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millitres of his breath - more than twice the legal limit.

Janas, of The Steyne, Bognor Regis, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on July 16.

He was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £180 and ordered to pay £235 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Gary McCue, 51, was arrested at 2.10am on June 26 after officers found him slumped over the steering wheel of his Renault Scenic in Marine Parade, Brighton.

The 51-year-old had 110 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath - more than three times the legal limit.

McCue, of Manor Way, Brighton, pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a vehicle when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on June 29.

He was banned from driving for six months, ordered to do 300 hours of community service and made the subject of a 12-month community order that included a condition that he be treated for alcohol addiction.

Kerensa Scott, 39, was arrested after she drove her Volkswagen Passat into a tree on Old Broyle Road, Chichester at about 12.40am on June 27.

She had 43 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of her breath.

Scott, of Bradshaw Road, Chichester, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when she appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on July 14.

She was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £175 and ordered to pay £235 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Gary McKinley was arrested at 10.45pm on June 20 after police stopped his Vauxhall Astra after they saw it moving slowly in Balcombe Road, Horley.

The 28-year-old had 45 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his breath.

McKinley, of Ennerdale Close, Crawley, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when he appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on July 13.

He was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £560 and ordered to pay £235 costs and a £56 victim surcharge.
