Did rat poison kill pet dog?

A DISTRAUGHT woman is claiming rat poison put down to control vermin in Egerton Park killed her pet Yorkie.

Val Rowland says her two-and-a-half-year-old miniature Yorkshire terrier Alfie was taken suddenly ill after eating the poisoned bait in Egerton Park, dying nine hours later.

But Rother District Council's environmental health department denies the slow-acting bait, Deadline, would have caused the dog's death.

Unconvinced Mrs Rowland is calling for the council to safeguard children and pets against the bright blue coloured poison which is clearly visible at the front of two of the bait stations and to warn other dog owners to be vigilant when walking their dogs.

She is also fearful children playing at the swings near by could be in danger as the pellets resemble bright stones.
