A resident cannot believe the council are repainting the lamp posts in Bexhill describing it as ‘ridiculous’.

The Western Road resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said he noticed they were being painted a slightly darker shade of green and when he asked the painter, he said it was because they were the wrong colour.

East Sussex County Council denied this and said it was general maintenance work as they were last painted 10 years ago.

“It seems ridiclous to go round and paint it when it’s not that different,” the resident said.

“The council do like to waste our money just like the pavements.

“If they have money to waste then put the car parking charges down?”

A spokesman for the county council said it is carrying out similar maintenance work in Hastings and Eastbourne.

“We are carrying out general maintenance work in the Bexhill conservation area and town hall square which involves repainting streetlight columns,” they said.

“These were last painted around 10 years ago.

“We have carried out similar work in Eastbourne and are doing the same in Hastings.”
