Dr Martin's music

Local doctor Steve Martin won't need the plastic gloves on Saturday - just flexible fingers ready for his organ recital at Beulah Baptist church hall starting 12.30pm.

Steve is a dermatologist who works at Old Town surgery as well as Bexhill Hospital but now everyone will have a chance to see another side of him.

He will play a wide selection of music from Bach to the Beatles, with some favourite golden oldies in between, in the hope of raising money for orphans in Uganda.

Anyone is welcome to attend the recital which will last for one hour - entrance to the recital will be through the Clifford Hall and part of the fundraising event.

His wife Liz commented: "He is going play a variety of classic and popular music. His favourite is J.S Bach so he will probably play a lot of that, and trumpet voluntaries too.

"He will play some of the Beatles, and some promenade music too for the older ones, some golden oldies such as Moonriver, which sounds fabulous."

All money raised will go to The Good Samaritan (Uganda) Trust, which Liz describes as a "baby" charity.

"We are very small...the money goes directly to an orphanage just outside Kampala, in a village called Buddo. There are 40 children.

"We are only tiny - what happened was someone went over there and stumbled across this lady trying to look after children in her own home, so we decided to help her. My husband and I went out there last year and I can assure you that every single penny goes out to the children, nothing goes to running the charity or anything such as administration. We pay our own airfares or anything of cost to ourselves. We take the money out personally and buy things out there such as bed sheets, soap powder, and everything they needed we went and bought for them."
