Six fire crews from across the region battled a serious house fire last night (Thursday).
Firefighters rushed to Sea Road at 6.30pm following reports of a house fire.
A spokesperson for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We attended an address on Upper Sea Road and confirmed the roof was alight.
“At the height of the incident six fire engines were at the scene, two from Bexhill, one from Bohemia Road, one from The Ridge (Hastings), one from Eastbourne, one from Pevensey and the Command Unit from Bexhill.
“The aerial appliance from Bohemia Road was also mobilised and used as a water tower.
“Ten breathing apparatus were used, along with three hose reel jets and firefighting foam.
“Sussex Police and the ambulance service were also in attendance.
“An investigation will be carried out into the fire.”
Eyewitness James Terry captured video footage (see the YouTube link above).
His commentary is not entirely accurate because nobody was inside the building, other than firefighters, but the footage does show the extent of the blaze and the huge plumes of smoke which could be seen from a large distance from the blaze.
