Drunk launched racial abuse at shop worker

A DRUNK unleashed a torrent of racist abuse at a shop worker after he refused to sell alcohol to the inebriated man.

Manoor Singh, 41, of Eversley Road, Bexhill, went into Tesco Express in Hollington at 1.30pm on October 5 and tried to buy some drink.

But when the cashier refused to serve him, Singh, a Sikh, accused the man of being a member of the far right-wing British National Party, and began swearing and making racial slurs towards him.

He left the store, but was later arrested by police, but Singh refused to answer any questions put to him by officers.

Singh pleaded guilty to one charge causing of racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress when he appeared before magistrates last Friday.

Aiden Harvey, defending, said: “All you can say is he was drunk and he knew he was being out of order.

“He has been on the butt end of this in the past and it was not pleasant.”

Magistrates heard Singh had previously been prosecuted for drink driving and is currently undergoing alcohol treatment.
