Eco friendly dwelling planned for Herbrand Walk

"A FANTASTIC and innovative design", was how Cllr Mrs J.M Hughes described a planning design application for the proposed erection of a contemporary dwelling on a vacant building plot in Herbrand Walk, Cooden Beach.

The latest, and fourth revised proposal by developers of the site, met with approval from councillors

at this months planning meeting.

Slightly larger and more detailed than previous designs, the applicants plan to erect the property with eco friendly materials and construction. They claim the three storey property will be a 'building for life', and is capable of accommodating a lift, and minor conversion to form a granny annexe.

The three storey dwelling will include a series of renewable energy systems, which will not only regulate thermal control and supply heated water, but will reduce the amount of wasted water from the property.

Outbuildings include a boathouse to the beach, a rear garden containing an open swimming pool, a workshop/garage and a separate studio/office within the front courtyard.

The comprehensive redevelopment of the site also includes proposals for landscaping of the front and rear boundaries.

Whilst councillors agreed the application was acceptable in principle, it was decided that some negotiation regarding the visibility splays and height/mass of the main dwelling would be beneficial, and it was recommended that full planning permission be deferred pending delegation and approval.
