Since it launched in 2013, people in the district have had the chance to cut their gas and electricity bills thanks to collective bargaining through the Big Community switch.

The scheme, supported by Rother District Council, sees energy firms compete to offer the best deal, with the successful bidder earning the right to offer it to people who registered an interest.

If they choose to accept the deal, people will have the entire switching process to the new supplier taken care of for them.

Council leader Carl Maynard said: “At this time of year, as temperatures start to drop and the heating goes on, energy bills can make a real hole in people’s pockets.

“If they’ve been with their current supplier for some time, people may be put off seeking out a better deal because they imagine it will involve a lot of time and effort.

“The real benefit of this scheme is it takes all the hassle out of the process and if people do decide to sign up to the new provider, everything is done for them.”

People can register their interest online and will be asked for their name, address, contact details, the name of their current supplier, tariff and energy consumption – information they can find on their latest fuel bill.

The scheme organiser, iChoose, calculates how much people could save under the deal being offered by the company submitting the best deal.

People are under no obligation to transfer and their details will not be shared with the new supplier unless they choose to switch.

The deadline to register interest is Monday, February 13, after which an email will be received with details of the deal offered from February 27, and people have until March 28, to decide if they wish to switch.
