Ethan braves the shave toraise money for Macmillan

Ten year old Bexhill lad Ethan Williams smashed his target for raising funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support Brave the Shave appeal.

Ethan, who goes to All Saints School in Sidley, had been growing his hair since Christmas in order to undergo his close shave at the Emma Hellier Hair and Beauty salon in Bexhill.

Dad Mike Williams explained: “He decided to do this as his family has been directly affected by Cancer and had great support from Macmillan so he felt he wanted to repay the favour. He set his fundraising target at £200 but has since raised over £450.

“He would like to convey a huge thank you to all his family and friends who have supported him and donated so generously.

On his fund raising page Ethan said: “I’m braving the shave because my two grandparents had cancer and, unfortunately, they died. And my dad had cancer twice too, but he was cured. MacMillan were there for them all.

“The lovely girls at Emma Hellier have offered to shave my hair.”

More than 19,000 people across the country signed up for this year’s Brave the Shave appeal, which has so far raised more than £1 million, 759,00 for the charity.

A Macmillan spokesperson said: “People with cancer go through hair loss and changes to their appearance that can affect everything from the way they look to how they feel. All the money raised means we can support people who are facing a difficult time so that they can start to feel more in control.
