Event in aid of heart charity was a runaway success

A RACE night was recently held at The Bexhill Conservative Club to raise funds for mobile units to come to Bexhill to scan young adults for undetected heart conditions.

The units are to be manned by Cardiac Risk in the Young and will be in memory of James Haggerty, who died in March 2009 of a rare heart condition called ALCAPA.

Jackie and Russell Haggerty would like to give a massive thanks to all those involved for their hard work and support.

Jackie said: “A brilliant night was had by all and in total a massive £650 was raised with a further £12.98 being donated by the Bexhill Conservative club “tips” bottle that had been on the bar.”

A target of £13,000 was needed for the two scanners and as this amount has now been exceeded, talks are taking place with heart charity CRY to arrange suitable dates for the screening programmes.

Jackie said: “Unfortunately all dates for the units are booked for this year so it is likely to be in April or May 2012.

“Full details will be advertised nearer the time.”
