Family raise more than £10,000 for charities with annual ball

Hayley Luck, of Parker Road, together with her family, organised the first Peridot Ball in 2012 to raise funds for the two charities.

Hayley’s father passed away due to prostate cancer and her mother-in-law to a stroke, so the family wanted to hold an event in their memory to raise money for the charities and awareness about the two conditions.

Hayley said: “This was our fourth event and our aim was to raise £2400 to bring our cumulative total to £10,000.”

The Ball, held at the Powdermills Hotel in Battle on August 21, raised an incredible £3,700.

Hayley commented: “It has far exceeded our expectations and we as a family are so grateful to everyone who has supported us again this year from all the guests who came on the evening to all the individuals and businesses who either sponsored the event or provided raffle and auction prizes.

“The evening began with the arrival of 117 guests who enjoyed a three course meal and live musical entertainment from crooner Simon Lawrence which started the evening off with a relaxed feeling.

“We then followed with a luxury raffle consisting of 35 prizes and an auction.

“The auction alone raised over £1400 with many amazing items being bidded for including signed sporting memorabilia from snooker player Steve Davis and boxer James Degale, a signed book from Quentin Blake and a signed and framed print from the Red Arrows.

“The top auction prize was the use of a Toyota GT86 Giallio sports car for the weekend courtesy of St leonards Motors which was won by local Hastings resident Roger Dando.

“A ladies lucky dip provided great excitement with everyone who purchased a ticket winning a gift to take home and enjoy.

“The evening finished with a disco, much dancing and the opportunity for people to release a memory balloon to remember their own loved ones.”
