Farewell afternoon planned at rowing club

BEXHILL Rowing Club will pull away from its present clubhouse for the last time on Sunday, October 10 as the premises is prepared for demolition.

It is due to go as part of the Next Wave seafront redevelopment, and to mark its demise a farewell open afternoon is being held in the clubhouse on Saturday, October 9.

Trophies and their winners from this year's competitions will be on display and, weather permitting, a barbecue will be held, followed by a fireworks display from about 7.30pm.

Matt Mitchell, fund-raising co-ordinator for a project to replace the old clubhouse with new premises, said: " The current club house will be open for inspection, allowing visitors to see the poor conditions that we have had to train in over the years."

He added: "We need to raise some 70,000 to complete its replacement, and have so far received almost 2,000 in direct donations thanks to peopple's generosity and funds secured from past events. Clearly we still have a long way to go, so any help is greatly appreciated."

Mr Mitchell said donations, payable to "Bexhill Rowing Club Boat House Fund" can be sent to him at 31 Woodsgate Park, Bexhill-on-Sea TN39 4DL
