Fashion inspiration for Bexhill College students

Students from the Textiles Technology Department at Bexhill College attended the Hussein Chalayan exhibition at the Design Museum.

They made the trip to Shad Thames to see up close the work of this highly acclaimed and innovative designer who has twice been named British Designer of the Year. Hussein is renowned for his innovative use of materials, meticulous pattern cutting and progressive attitudes to new technology.

The extensive exhibition showed examples of early experiments with burying garments with metal filings, to see how rust would react with the fabric, to his latest hi-tech experimentsusing lasers and crystals.

The students wereso inspired by the exhibition that they sketched his groundbreaking designs and some students are planningto revisit the exhibition during theirEaster break.

Course tutor Nancy Scott said "It was an incredible exhibition. I could see that it has really inspired so many of the students. They have found new levels of enthusiasm and the trip was a real success"
