The man behind the drive for new festive lights in Bexhill says he hopes to spread the Christmas cheer to Sidley.
Mick Matthews heads up Shining Lights, a group which is aiming to raise £60,000 to pay for some much-needed new festive lights for the town centre.
The Christmas lights appeal has been well received and now, working with The Festive Lighting Company, Mick is exploring the possibility of bringing some of the new Christmas lights to Sidley.
Mick said: “Sidley has been through a hard time and it’s where I was born and bred and as they say, some of the best destinations come from a broken road.”
Meanwhile the fundraising drive continues apace, with more than £12,000 pledged by traders and residents in less than a fortnight.
All Angles Roofing in Burgess Hill gave £1,000 to the cause, while the £500 from the Bexhill 100 Motoring Club’s continental market was gratefully received. Other businesses have pledged sums ranging from £10 to £300.
Mick said: “I am astonished. I still have not done a quarter of the shops yet.”
Meanwhile a fundraising disco will take place on Saturday August 1, from 8pm.
The event will be held at Centre Stage, which has offered its hall for free, with Soul Man Sam giving his time for free to entertain the crowd.
Tickets and posters have been printed for free by Hastings Printers. Tickets cost £5, call Mick on 07712201170.
