A devastating blaze tore through the Sidley Sports and Social Club building on Saturday night (February 28).
Several fire engines raced to the scene, but the blaze is believed to have caused substantial damage to the site.
The Sidley Sports and Social Club closed in April 2013 due to severe financial difficulties, leaving Sidley United Football Club and Sidley Cricket Club without a ground.
The site has stood empty ever since and has been repeatedly targeted by vandals.
Speaking about the fire, one Sidley resident told the Observer: “It was inevitable this was going to happen.”
It is not yet known what caused the blaze or whether it was started deliberately.
