Former council chief’s royal appointment

Former Rother District Council chief executive Derek Stevens has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of East Sussex.

Mr Stevens retired in August 2013 after nearly 40 years with the local authority.

Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex Peter Field said “I am delighted that Derek has been appointed. He has, and continues to play an important part in the life of our local community and I know his considerable skills and experience will be extremely useful in supporting me in the execution of my duties.”

Lord-Lieutenants are the representatives of the Crown for each county in the United Kingdom.

They are responsible for the organisation of all official Royal visits to their county and carry out other ceremonial duties in their county,
