Fund aids Elva restoration project for Museum

THE campaign to restore and conserve a Bexhill-made Mark III Elva sports-racing car has received a major boost with grant aid from a specialist fund.

The PRISM Fund supports the acquisition and conservation of heritage objects relating to all fields of the history of science, technology, industry and medicine.

The fund aims to support organisations entrusted with the care of the nation's industrial and scientific heritage, forging links and encouraging best practice and showing the ways in which local and regional collections combine to map the detail of the nation's industrial and scientific past.

John Betts, fund-raising manager for the Society of Bexhill Museums, said: "The maximum grant that can be awarded is 50% of the eligible project costs.

"We have been awarded 12,749, the full amount requested, towards the total cost of 25,498.

"Objects eligible must be important for the history and development of science, technology etc in a local, regional or national context.

"The grant emphasises the position of Elva Engineering of Bexhill as an important part of Britain's industrial and techniology heritage. The town's residents should be rightly proud of this fact. "

The restored car will be displayed alongside the replica Serpollet and the St Richards School's record breaking Volta in the planned motoring/technology gallery in the new Bexhill Museum.

*The Society of Bexhill Museums will be having a stand at the forthcoming Green Day in Egerton Park organised by the Friends of Egerton Park.
