Gala night glitters in Ninfield

A "glittering" gala night was held at Ninfield Memorial Hall on Saturday which was well supported by Ninfield residents along with guests from Bexhill, Crowhurst and Hooe.

The evening kicked off with piping hot fish and chips which were delivered at 8pm by The Chip Basket in Sidley.

The Brighton Revue Company provided an excellent cabaret of comedy songs and sketches which delighted the audience and had them cheering for more.

Master of Ceremonies Mark Wilkins then introduced the presentations which were the focus of the evening.

Parish Council Chairman Roger Kent explained the aim behind the Ninfield Village Award, and the first winner of it was Mrs Cynthia Pettet who was praised for her care and service to the village.

Ninfield Carnival Association treasurer, Andy Gale, then presented a cheque for 4,500 to the chosen charity - Demelza James children's hospice. The money was received with surprise and thanks from the charity's ambassador, Paul Ireland.

The second Village Award followed which was given to Carole Kent for her litter-picking services to the village.

The raffle raised 229 for the Memorial Hall refurbishment fund, and to end the evening the guests danced to Dan's Fantastic Disco.

Event organiser Sami Guard said: "Although numbers were slightly down on two years ago, for credit-crunching reasons, I am absolutely thrilled with how it's gone tonight. I would like to thank Julia, Kaye and Joy for their help decorating the hall so beautifully, the Carnival Committee for organising the bar, The Chip Basket for such excellent service and all the suited and sequinned guests who supported this extravaganza."
