Tennis For Free is a national scheme which organised sessions throughout the summer in conjunction with Rother District Council (RDC) and the Lawn Tennis Association.

During the summer, more than 200 people - from young children to people aged over 50 – attended sessions in Egerton Park, which included free tuition and access to equipment.

The last session was held on Saturday, October 27 but Adrian Gaylon, sports development officer at RDC says the courts will remain open throughout the winter, weather permitting.

“The scheme will return from March next year,” he said.

“The tennis sessions have proved a great success with people of all ages coming down to play tennis and enjoy what the park has to offer. Additionally the sessions have helped people become more active and enabled them to make new friends both of which have health benefits.

“I’m pleased that by working with others, the council has managed to get more people playing this summer.”

Paul Jessop CEO for Tennis For Free, said: “It’s been a great year for Tennis For Free at Egerton Park which has seen over 200 people take part. We’re thrilled to be continuing it from spring 2019.”

Lead coach Adam Field added: “I am delighted so many people came along and either tried tennis for the first time or got back into tennis again.

“I would hope with RDC support and funding from Tennis For Free we can build on the sessions next year.”
