Garage cash snatched in street

A BEXHILL garage worker has been attacked and robbed of £5,000 in the street.

The 29-year-old victim was attempting to pay business takings into a bank wall safe when the robber struck.

Detective Constable Dawn Lister said: "At about 8.20am on Sunday a robbery occurred outside Barclays Bank in Devonshire Road.

"The victim had placed a large sum of money in the night safe when he was attacked from behind and his money was stolen."

DC Lister said the attacker pushed the man violently against the wall, snatched the cash and ran off down Parkhurst Road, which is opposite the bank.

The victim fell to the ground and suffered a bruised knee in the attack.

The robber is described as white, male, aged 18 to 25 and between 5ft 8-ins and 5ft 9ins tall.

DC Lister said: "He was seen just before the attack sitting on a bench outside W.H. Smith's."

Police immediately began a detailed search of the town centre but the robber escaped.
