Get behind the town's festival of music

LETTERS are being sent out throughout this month to community organisations in the town asking for support for Bexhill's Festival of Music 2011.

The festival will last for the whole of June, and organiser Tony Mansi says the first couple of weeks of the new year are crucial.

“We decided that January would be a good time to target groups in Bexhill and ask them to pledge to be a part of the festival. We had a good response to the first article in the Observer in mid-December and we have already had some firm commitments.

“But we are hopeful that as things return to normal after the Christmas festivities, they can think ahead and decide they want to be involved in an event in June. That’s why the letters are going out in the next week or so.

“We are just starting to plan the festival, and this year we are hoping it will be bigger and better than ever.”

The aim is for 15-20 different events around the town and they are inviting interest from:

• schools and colleges

• community groups

• churches

• talented individuals

• hotels and restaurants

• Rotary Clubs

• and basically anyone who wants to play a positive role and enhance the Festival 2011.

All organisers ask is that your involvement is musical - choirs, classical, rock, reggae, street busking in Devonshire Square, opera in a hotel or a restaurant - as long as it is music.
