Ghost Town Britain - says Greg

BEXHILL MP Gregory Barker has backed the proposed new Sustainable Communities Bill following the Queen's Speech outlining the government's agenda for Parliament.

The new draft law, which Greg has previously sponsored, was drawn up in conjunction with the cross-party organization Local Works and would give local representatives more power to determine how public money is spent. It would also improve the accountability of council services.

Mr Barker said: ""Too often, the views of local people are ignored by the politicians and bureaucrats sitting in Whitehall, especially in areas like ours.

"This proposed new law will give local communities a far greater say on how their taxpayers money is spent. In particular, I hope that giving more power to local people will help tackle 'Ghost Town Britain' '“ the ongoing loss of local shops, services and facilities."
