Glyne Gap station among regeneration plan ideas

COUNCIL officers have sounded a note of caution over the authority's plans for regeneration.

A report approved by Rother District Council's (RDC) Cabinet committee on Monday said the original strategy, which focuses on the economic regeneration of Rother, "was too moderate, and was not sufficiently robust or strident in expressing the difficulties faced in the local economy."

And a proposed station at Glyne Gap is among the ideas mooted in the revised strategy, along with better broadband speed for rural Rother, and improving education standards.

A more positive and dynamic approach was needed, the report concluded, for private investors to buy into Rother over a five-year period, until 2015.

Speaking on Monday, Cllr Robin Patten, of Marsham ward, said: "This is a really good template. Gone are the days where we can be happy and cheerful about doling out the cash. We need to be much more careful."
