Developers have won the right to turn the ground floor of a house in Bexhill into a day care centre for the elderly.
Ayush Care submitted proposals to Rother District Council (RDC) for the property in Holmesdale Road, which were discussed by councillors on the authority’s planning committee last Thursday (May 28).
Planning officers at RDC recommended the plans be granted permission ahead of last week’s decision.
Their report said the first floor of the building would remain in residential use but developers planned to create three bedrooms, a kitchenette and a bathroom.
In the report it said the day care centre would be used by up to 25 local elderly people who would travel from their own homes or other care providers by minibus. The centre would be open from 9am to 5pm on Mondays to Fridays only.
Ayush Care intends to offer breakfast and lunch at the proposed centre but personal care, such as baths, would not be available. One staff member would be required per five visitors and there would also be one member of kitchen staff.
Management of the centre would be based at the applicant’s existing care home at 3 Holmesdale Road, with some staff working at both facilities, RDC planners said.
RDC received more than 50 letters of objection to the scheme and 12 letters of support before it was given approval.
