Good samaritans help woman during St Leonard’s attack

Police are looking for two good samaritans who helped a woman when she was attacked by a man.

The incident happened in London Road, St Leonards-on-Sea and a man attacked a woman, grabbing her hair and an ear.

It was at around 3.30pm on Friday (31 July) outside Oaks Bakery. The woman was not injured.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to another man and woman who intervened to protect the victim.

She was a 21-year-old who with the aid of another woman, who stepped in to help, sought sanctuary in St Leonards Grocery, London Road.

Her assailant was briefly restrained by the man before running off. During the incident the victim’s iPhone was smashed.

The passers-by who assisted or anyone who saw what happened is asked to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting serial 1007 of 31/7.

Alternatively they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers without having to leave their name on 0800 555 111.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage and possession of cannabis. He has been bailed until 14 August while enquiries continue.
