Greg tries hospital cleaning today

GREG Barker will roll up his sleeves to work as a volunteer cleaner at the Conquest Hospital this morning.

The Bexhill MP aims to see for himself the real state of cleanliness at the hospital.

Mr Barker will work an early morning shift with hospital cleaning staff on the Ashburnham Ward.

This comes after an increasing number of local concerns have been raised about cleaning standards at the Conquest and the release of worrying national statistics revealing that twice as many people are now dying in the UK from major hospital-acquired superbugs than are killed each year on the roads.

Mr Barker said: "Hospital cleaning is a vital part of patient care and it is important that high standards are maintained at all our local hospitals, including the Conquest.

"During my volunteer work I hope to gain a better understanding about cleanliness at the Conquest and it will also give me a chance to meet the cleaning staff who help to keep wards free from disease."
