Hastings Week will be bigger and better than ever this year

The popular annual event gets underway on Saturday October 10 and runs until Sunday 18.

This year’s Hastings Week celebrates the 949th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings on October 14 1066 and builds on the success of last year’s ‘week’ with a huge variety of events for all the family, including walks, talks, concerts, jazz, shows and exhibitions as well as a book launch, a ‘toddle waddle’ and best-dressed Old Town window competition.

Once again, many of the town’s restaurants and pubs will be offering a deal where people can dine for two for £10.66.

A good many of the events are free including classic vehicle shows at the beginning and end of the week and guest appearances by Hastings Old Town Carnival Court.

The two day Crafts Fayre at Sacred Heart School, Old London Road, is building on its success and now needs even more exhibitors for the event on October 17 and 18, to make it even bigger and better than last year.

Hastings Week Committee vice chairman Ion Castro who produced the programme said: “We have had 10,000 copies of the programme printed and all the events for the ‘week’ are listed as well as details of the very popular £10.66 meal deal.

“The ‘week’ includes the Classic Car Show, an historic commercial vehicle run, a number of open days and, of course, Hastings Bonfire and Torchlit procession.”

Taking place on Sunday October 11, at Hastings Lifeboat Station, is the annual second-hand jewellery sale in aid of the lifeboat. It takes place from 10am onwards and admission is free, with refreshments available.

Linked with the celebrations is the Order of 1066 Award, presented annually to recognise and honour, in a tangible way, a person who has rendered especially meritorious service to the town and its inhabitants in a voluntary capacity. You can nominate on the website.
