Haven't a bean? You will have at this show

DIG Together Day, a Royal Horticultural Society campaign to boost gardening, happily coincides with one of Bexhill's most popular growing shows, being held next Saturday, September 3 at Pebsham Community Centre.

It is the annual autumn show staged by Bexhill Horticultural Society, and as in past years, promises a wealth of green-fingered talent put on display for the public’s appraisal.

The group’s chairman, Mrs Pat Reilly, said: “Our day is open to everyone, and even if you’re not a keen gardener it doesn’t matter.

“We’ll be giving people the chance to take part in Dig Together Day by giving away five free broad bean seeds to anyone keen to try their hand.

“These can then be grown over the winter, ideally in a 10-inch pot, and the plants can be entered in a special class we shall be having in our 2012 spring show.”

Pat said that in keeping with the spirit of the RHS campaign, the Bexhill group hoped to get more people discovering a love for gardening and, in turn, to attract new members.

She said: “Our membership subscription is just £3 a year and my husband, Robin, would be delighted to hear from anyone wishing to know more on 01424 210770.”
