History in the making

HISTORY was made on Tuesday evening when the first students and parents visited Sussex Coast College Hastings.

A special open evening was staged at UCH and groups taken up to the 120 million construction site on Station Plaza.

The college will open in September 2009 and an incredible 1250 people attended the event meeting tutors, listening to presentations and using the opportunity to see how the remarkable new building is developing.

Sue Middlehurst, Principal of Hastings College, said:"It was a fantastic night and one I will always remember. It was very exciting to see so many people eager to find out about Sussex Coast College Hastings and meet the tutors who will be teaching them next September. The open evening was very busy and all the staff and students from the college and UCH performed brilliantly."

Due to the huge numbers of people at the open evening students and parents waited patiently to meet tutors from a range of subject areas, these included Art & Design, Academy 6, Media, Heath & Social Care, Hair & Beauty, Construction, Engineering, and many more.

Visitors were then given the chance to take their historic first steps into Sussex Coast College Hastings.

The Art & Design faculty were recently awarded an 'outstanding' grade one by Ofsted inspectors and Head of Department, Martin Symons, was in no doubt about the success of the evening.

Martin said: "Sussex Coast College has clearly captured the imagination of prospective students and their parents. People have great hopes for the new college and are keenly anticipating becoming the first students to study there. We received some fantastic feedback during the open evening and are very excited by the many talented young people we met."
