Idea is aired to beat cold-calling rogues

RESIDENTS in part of Bexhill are being asked about a plan to give bogus traders the cold shoulder with an official No Cold Calling Zone.

The proposed zone – which would cover the Chantry Avenue, Church Vale Road and The Glades area – is being put forward by East Sussex County Council’s Trading Standards team, Sussex Police and Rother Neighbourhood Watch.

Cllr Carl Maynard, lead member for economy, transport and environment at the county council, said: “The aim of the zone is to deter unwanted callers and prevent bogus traders targeting residents, especially older and vulnerable people. We hope local residents will let our Trading Standards team know what they think about the proposals.”

The consultation runs until Saturday July 30. The county council has already written to all residents in the area.

This is also a chance for residents, businesses and faith groups to ask questions and put forward their view on the matter to Trading Standards.

If you are interested in commenting please contact Louise Baxter at East Sussex County Council Trading Standards on 01323 463446 or email your enquiry to: [email protected] or look at the East Sussex County Council website for more information.

If the scheme goes ahead, a launch date will be organised where information will be available to residents.

Signs will go up at the entry and exit points of the major roads in and surrounding the area to ensure unwanted callers get the message that they are not welcome.
