'Lack of vision' in waste plan

BEXHILL'S unwanted role as the dumping ground for the county's waste is being fiercely challenged.

A new report targets "lack of vision" by a public inquiry inspector over controversial plans to expand Pebsham Tip.

It says the proposed country park on the Bexhill-Hastings boundary has not been given due regard.

And it is concerned that the only new waste site being considered for East Sussex is also at Bexhill ... the claypit site at Ashdown Brickworks in Turkey Road.

That site is being earmarked for up to 100,000 tonnes of rubbish per year.

Rother director of services Tony Leonard intends to present a hard-hitting case for telling the county council what Rother thinks of the official report on the inquiry into the East Sussex and Brighton and Hove Waste Plan.

He says the range of activities now suggested at Pebsham goes "considerably beyond" that in the Second Deposit Local Plan.

Mr Leonard's report goes before Rother's waste local plan sub-committee next Thursday.
