The 50 Public Service students attended a Stay Alive presentation at the White Rock Theatre, Hastings on November 8.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Sussex Police gave the young people an insightful presentation on how to stay safe whilst driving, the effects of dangerous driving and graphic details about what their job involves.

Mark Lynch of Bexhill 6th Form College says the students were interested and impressed by the presentation. “They gained up to date knowledge and understanding for their own personal driving development as well as reinforcing and extending topical current affairs they are studying,” he said. “The course has been specifically designed as interactive preparation for those interested in pursuing a career within a Public or Emergency Service.”

The Level 2 Public Service team visited Bexhill Fire Station for a day in the life of a Firefighter on November 11.

Students donned full firefighting kit to take part in various team building activities, including a 45 foot ladder climb up the tower. Mark said: “Students scaled the ladder in full protective equipment, then created a make-shift water dam using ladders, a tarpaulin and rope. They also had a tour of the station, kit and equipment used by the team. The visit was enjoyed by all. Thank you Garry Alexander and Bexhill Fire Station.”
