It was a dark and stormy night, but again the hall was full with members and visitors waiting to hear ‘Master Gardener’ Hilary Newman telling us how to hide that ugly fence or wall.
Hilary started his career working under glass then moved to Edinburgh Botanics where he gained his degree and later moved to RHS Wisley. His knowledge of plants is extensive and with each slide he gave us full details of the best plant for varying locations, soil types and their maintenance. A most informative, useful and well timed talk which will help us choose and plant in the coming season.
One of the categories in this month`s show was a knitted blanket to be given to the Premature Baby Unit at the Conquest Hospital. This was very well supported, particularly by Bizzy Fingers and not surprisingly one of their group came first in that category. Many thanks to all those who entered.
Our next meeting will be held on 13th March when John Buckingham will be talking about ‘Flowers of the Mediterranean’ at the Community Centre starting at 7.15pm.
Visitors are very welcome (£2). We are still taking bookings for our outings to Borde Hill and Marle Place Gardens. www.lchs.co.uk
