Little Common soccer sixes

MORE than 100 teams consisting of a grand total of 800 players got their kicks in Little Common Football Club's annual Six-a-Side Tournament at the weekend.

The hugely popular event at the Recreation Ground attracted teams from Sussex and Kent who tackled age groups ranging from under-9s through to under-14s. There was also an under-15 girls' competition.

The host club enjoyed a successful weekend with all age groups reaching the semi-finals, four going onto the final and two being crowned champions.

Results: Under-9 winners Little Common, runners-up Sedlescombe Rangers; Under-10 winners Little Common, r-up Ridgewaye; Under-11 winners Polegate Grasshoppers, r-up Hastings Town Blue; Under-12 winners Glenco, r-up Lewes Bridgeview; Under-13 winners Hailsham United, r-up Little Common; Under-14 winners Polegate Grasshoppers, r-up Little Common; Under-15 Girls winners Winkney, r-up Polegate Grasshoppers.

Tournament organiser Daniel Eldridge said: "It was another very successful weekend with the main emphasis on the boys and girls enjoying some post season fun. Of course, trophies were at stake but the matches were played in the correct spirit with good sportsmanship being demonstrated.

"The weather remained very kind to us and the club wishes to thank all the referees, sponsors and club members who helped make the tournament such a huge success."
