Little interest in church sites
THERE have been no purchase offers for the St John's Church site and only two for the St George's Church site - and both of those were unsatisfactory. That's the news Michael Randall, church secretary for Bexhill United Reformed Church, has for members.
The combined church has obtained planning permission for flats on the St John's site on the London Road-Victoria Road corner, which includes Victoria Hall. It has also obtained permission for homes on the St George's site between Lionel Road and Cantelupe Road together with permission to build a replacement church.
In an update in the church magazine, Mr Randall says a recent marketing exercise with estate agents for the sites reflected the current economic climate and the state of the housing market. But he adds: "We have recently been in conversation with a local church which has indicated a possible interest in a leasing arrangement on the London Road premises but this is still very much in the early stages."
