Local club gets Lionsshare of lottery fund

Bexhill Lions Club is celebrating after it was announced that they are being awarded funding of almost £10,000 from The Big Lottery Fund Awards for All.

The award was granted to the local club under The Big Lottery Funds for All Organisations in the South East of England banner. Along with other organisations in the South East Bexhill Lions club received £9,979.01 from an awards total of £1,191,771.

On announcing the names of the award recipients, the Big Lottery stated that Bexhill Lions will use the funding to computerise its current administration system and set up social networking, adding: “This will enable the organisation to reduce the burden of administration tasks on a few volunteers and open up new communication channels to promote the work they do for charity and increase membership within the community.”

Bexhill Lion President Richard Winrow said the club was delighted to be granted the award. “This is tremendous news and will enable us to extend our reach into the community as well as making the latest technology available to members. The equipment includes computers, printers/laminators, photographic and presentation equipment and radio communications.

The latter will be of great use for the Santa Dash on December 6 and the Triathlon next year.”

The Big Lottery Fund is responsible for handing out 40 per cent of the money raised for good causes by the National Lottery to bring real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need. It also presents grants to health, education, environment and charitable causes across the UK. Since its inception in 2004 they have awarded close to £6bn.

Lion Richard added: “Putting the bid together was a real team effort and I would like to thank Lions Rick Hough, George Coleman, David Burstow and John Harvey for all their hard work. It really paid off.”Visit www.bexhill-lions.org
