Lucky Draw Winner for a Sussex Breakfast

A lucky visitor got more than bacon and eggs when she tucked into a Sussex Breakfast in 1066 Country. Phillipa Jones, from Melton Mowbray, won herself a £60 voucher during her stay at the 'A White Lodge' in Battle after filling in a feedback form about the Sussex Breakfast scheme.

The voucher can be used towards a stay at one of the 15 accommodation providers around 1066 Country providing Sussex Breakfasts.

B&Bs and hotels taking part in the scheme use only locally sourced food and drinks for their breakfast menus.

Mrs Jones said: "This initiative raised our awareness of the wealth of local produce available in the area. We visited a local vineyard, something we wouldn't normally have done. It is a wonderful scheme".

The Sussex Breakfast is an initiative of Plumpton College, 1066 Country Marketing and Tourism South East with funding from the EU LEADER + programme.

Topsy Jewell, co-ordinator of the Netherfield centre for Sustainable Food and Farming at Plumpton College, said: "We are linking B&Bs and hotels with local bacon, sausage, egg, milk, yoghurt and fruit producers.

"It is all about delicious local food, reducing food miles, and supporting food producers who take care of our countryside. Feed back from visitors has been excellent and we are looking forward to another draw in December".
