Man dies in car crash

A LOCAL man has been killed following a collision between two vehicles in Bexhill on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident in Cooden Drive, at the junction with Westcourt Drive, at approximately 10.05am on Tuesday (February 15) following the collision between a maroon Honda Civic and a Vauxhall Astra.

The Kent air ambulance attended, along with two appliances and crew from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, based at Bexhill, who used cutting equipment to free the driver of the Honda.

However, the 62-year-old man, who was named yesterday (Thursday) as Alexander Victor William Burke, was declared dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the Astra, a 22-year-old man from St Leonards-on-Sea, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in custody at Hastings.

Police are appealing for witnesses, or those who may have seen either of the vehicles in the area in the time leading up to the accident, to call 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Harsfold.
