This man is described as 5ft 6in, between 50 and 60 years old, slim build, tanned complexion, thin moustache wearing black trousers and a white shirt. He smelled of smoke.

Police said: "If you see this man or he calls at your door offering to buy your personal items call police on 0845 6070999 and quote serial 923 of 06/06/07.

"Be aware that if someone should cold-call you, i.e you are not expecting the gas man, a gardener etc, and you have a door chain, use it to prevent them walking straight into your home uninvited.

"Ask for ID if they claim to be from a company, if they can't produce any or it looks dodgy, be polite and close your door. Essentially if you have any reservations don't let them in and call police so that they can apprehend this person."
