man jailed for owning child porn

A BEXHILL man who downloaded and distributed hundreds of indecent images of young children has been jailed for 30 months.

Nigel Murch, 55, of Collington Lane West, (pictured) was arrested by officers from Sussex Police’s Paedophile On-Line Investigation Team (POLIT) after a warrant was executed at his address on June 25, 2009.

Murch’s computers were seized and examined, revealing indecent images and videos of youngsters as young as six.

Murch appeared at Lewes Crown Court on Monday last week, January 17, and pleaded guilty to three charges of distributing indecent images, nine of possession with a view to distribute, four of possession and one of possessing 502 extreme pornographic images.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Martin Harmer, from the POLIT, said: “When Murch was arrested he readily admitted what he had been doing and that other people were using his files and downloading images from them.

“His offending had increased over time to graphic adult pornography and indecent images of children; by the time we arrested him he had literally hundreds in his possession and was sharing these with other users.

“Once again this case send a clear message to others who think that online environments offer them anonymity in their offending. Every child depicted is a victim - if you choose to download such material then you will leave a digital footprint which can be traced.”

Murch was jailed for 30 months for each of the distribution charges, 30 months for each of the possession with a view to distribute charges and 15 months for each of the possession charges, all to run concurrently.
