Marquee at festival proves a hit

THE fourth annual Bexhill Edgyfest, sponsored by Churches Together in Bexhill, took place in Egerton Park over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The event attracted hundreds of people to celebrate the Christian faith and the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible being published.

Use of a huge marquee for the first time proved inspirational, sheltering festival-goers from keen sou’westerly winds and cutting external noise levels from music and singing to less than Rother District Council’s 65 decibel requirement.

Michael Ensor, who helped organise the event, said: “We were able to recognise the religious, spiritual, cultural and political significance of the Bible being published in the English language.”

Mr Ensor thanked special guests Tristan McDonald, from Shoreham-by-Sea, a retired missionary, and local man Richard Brookes, a collector and restorer of old bibles, and also readers who helped highlight “100 important passages in the Bible” throughout the weekend.

Sunday celebrations, embracing all denominations, were led by the Rev Graham Holliday, of Beulah Baptist Church, and the Rev Peter Timms, chairman of Churches Together in Bexhill.
