Bexhill couple, Mary and Reg Hawkins, celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on
They met at the Young People’s Fellowship Group at the Congregational Church in South Woodford and shared an interest in amateur dramatics and badminton
Romance blossomed and they married at the church and set up home in Woodford Green, Essex.
In 1967 they moved to Bexhill with their three children, Andrew, Wendy and Alison.
Now retired, Reg was a professional photographer who worked at Photax in Hampden Park for many years.
He was a stalwart of Bexhill Photographic Society and he eventually branched out into wedding photography.
His interest in amateur dramatics continued and he could often be found on the sets of BATS and BLODS rehearsals and performances, taking pictures for many of their productions.
Mary taught at Down Infants School and volunteered for many years at The Pine Tree, the St. Michael’s Hospice-run café in St.Leonard’s Road.
After the café closed, she continued her voluntary work on the Bexhill Community bus and is still busy as a conductor on the bus. Mary and Reg are also active members of St. Stephen’s Church.
They will be entertaining their family (including seven grandchildren) and friends at a party to celebrate this special occasion.
