More demolition at fire-wrecked hotel

EXPECT to see even less of the former Grand Hotel in the immediate future.

"The scaffolding is for continued demolition of the dangerous walls.

"That work will start in the next week," said Mr Smith.

He has been in further discussion with Rother council's building control department over safety issues posed by the wreck of the century-old hotel.

The hotel is a Grade II Listed building and cannot be demolished in its entirety without Listed building consent.

Asked if he would be seeking permission to demolish the building entirely, Mr Smith said he would be taking advice on the matter following a structural survey. Police enquiries are continuing into the fire which wrecked the Sea Road hotel a month ago (pictured above).

Four or five seats of fire were reported at the disused and boarded up building. It was the biggest blaze seen in Bexhill for a generation.
