Mozart to Manning at Bexhill's new theatre

FROM opera classics to Bernard Manning, Mozart to Bootleg Abba, the latest Bexhill venue to be re-opened promises something for all tastes in the new year.

Entrepreneur Philip Cotterill is re-launching the former Curzon Cinema in Western Road as the Redstack Playhouse with a comprehensive line-up of live acts.

Live opera comes to the Redstack on January 27 with Tenorissimo, three tenors in concert presenting all the operatic classics. The Comedy Club brings three comedians a night to the Redstack Playhouse on January 28, February 24 and April 19 featuring acts such as Marcus Brigstocke, Terry Alderton, Paul Zerdin, Rudi Lickwood and Gina Yashere.

The New Squadronaires, the orchestra based on and dedicated to the original World War II RAF band, play the dance band music of the Forties in authentic style on February 4. Tickets are 15, 17 and 22.50.

The Redstack Playhouse takes Baggy Trousers one step further with Complete Madness on February 10 with the five-piece band evoking One Step Beyond, It Must Be Love, Driving My Car and many more. Versatile tv personality Bobby Davro is the star on February 11.

X-Factor singer Tabby brings his band DZ5 to the Redstack Playhouse on February 18 as part of an Irish and UK tour and featuring tracks from his forthcoming album together with some great rock classic covers.

Watching T-Rextasy in concert demands stamina, a good pair of bopping shoes and a healthy set of lungs. Fabulous boogie songs that made Marc Bolan the leading force of Glam Rock are brought to the Redstack Playhouse on February 25 as part of T-Rextasy's Born To Boogie tour. In a 250th birthday tribute to Mozart, the Locrian Ensemble present a classics-by-candlelight concert featuring top London musicians in period costume in an evocative candlelit setting on March 3.

It's an over-18s night again on March 10 as comedian Jimmy Jones - billed as the only comedian to get requests from audiences for their favourite gags - plays the Redstack.

Bootleg Abba, one of the country's most successful and acclaimed tribute bands, appear live on March 18. Bootleg Abba have carefully crafted a show that captures the numbers that saw Abba at their chart-topping best between 1974 and 1982.

Bernard Manning tops the bill on March 25's over-18s night. The Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra will be in uniform on April 8 for more than two hours of Miller hits from the Forties. Lee Lards presents his Peter Kay Experience on April 15. Lee Lards appeared on Peter Kay's Comic Relief Amarillo DVD alongside Peter Kay and Tony Christie. He tops an over-18s night on April 15.

From the US, Marvin Ruffin's Motown Memories hits town on April 28. The five-piece line-up is fronted by Marvin Ruffin, a cousin of David and Jimmy, in a two-hour Motown special.
