Mums marathon effort

It wasn't easy, but two Bexhill mothers completed the Hastings half-marathon to raise over £250 for their children's nursery.

Mel King and Helen Hunnisett took part in the event to boost the coffers of Startright nursery at St Stephen's church hall in Woodsgate Park - they hope to help pay for outdoor play equipment in the garden area.

Mel said: "It was hard work - very hard work. We power-walked and jogged a little bit, but we got round the course - I did it in 3hrs 20mins and Helen did it in 3.10.

"But we did pretty well considering we didn't have much training.

"It was such a lovely day, really beautiful, and we loved it. We thoroughly enjoyed it - so much so we are thinking of doing it again next year. It was really good fun - it gave us a real buzz.

"We raised between 250-300, and we would like to say a big thank you to everybody who supported us."
