National chance for drama students

TWO young drama students at Bexhill College have taken their first steps towards showbiz stardom.

Simon Northcott and Naomi McMaster, both 18, auditioned along with 4,800 other budding young actors from across the UK for just 500 places in the National Youth Theatre (NYT).

Both impressed judges and were this week delighted to hear they have been accepted onto an exclusive two week course in London this summer.

They will hone their dramatic skills with top theatre coaches and will then be eligible to audition for NYT productions at London's Shaw Theatre.

Simon, who eventually wants to go on to drama school, said: "It will be a great experience getting that level of tuition.

"If we then go on to get parts in shows it would be fantastic."

Naomi, who teaches drama groups at St Mary's School, added: "I'm not sure what I want to do after college but this could help make up my mind. It feels good to get selected from all those thousands who auditioned."

The pair are now looking for financial sponsorship to cover the NYT course fees.
