New base for business in Selsey

A ONE-stop shop for people and businesses in Selsey is set to give residents a boost.

Chichester District Council is working to support the community, which has more than 500 people relying on jobseekers’ allowance and other state benefits.

A council-owned premises in High Street, Selsey, will be allocated to Selsey Town Council for the use of the Selsey Works Project, which aims to help troubled families, improve job opportunities, increase employment and boost the economy.

“I think it has been an exciting project,” said councillor Heather Caird, leader of the council.

Councillors passed the recommendations to support the project and agree the lease terms at a district council cabinet meeting 
on Tuesday.

“Selsey Town Council are to be congratulated,” said Cllr Josef Ransley.

“It is so good to see a project with some positive 
outcomes.”

Shop space in the ground floor would be used as a pop-up shop with space rented to micro-businesses and entrepreneurs.

The offices would also provide a base for Chichester College and Job Centre Plus.

The project has received £50,000 funding from central government.
